Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” This quote is arguably one of the most famous sayings on the value of education.

Were he alive today, Mr Mandela would probably have had to tweak that statement to, “Online education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world by giving all people of all colours and creeds the chance to acquire critical skills needed to succeed in it.”

Online education is certainly catching up to traditional learning and according to the World Economic Forum, surpassing it. They say that people are increasingly accessing online courses to help them navigate today’s ever-changing labor market, and the highest rate of new learner growth online is coming from emerging economies.”

Currently, online learning is massive and growing year on year with experts predicting that the market could be worth as much as $325 billion by 2025. Plus, as internet speeds and technology improve, it will become easier and more practical to study online, putting online universities such as Nexford to the top of the list for prospective learners looking to gain a world-class degree.

VIP guests at Nexford US graduation spoke about the value of online learning

Captains of industry, Morgan Davis, CEO of TowneBank and Carlos Gutierrez, Chairman and CEO of EmPath and former United States Secretary of Commerce were VIP guests at the recent Nexford US graduation ceremony held in Washington D.C. They both spoke candidly of the need for greater education to help further career progression of people around the world, especially in developing countries.

In a nutshell, Morgan Davis outlined the dire need for companies to unearth top talent to build better and more competitive businesses, and also for future talent to upskill in order to get ahead of others in the race to land those big-ticket jobs.

In his address to the graduates at the glittering graduation ceremony, Mr Davis highlighted that social and technical skills are highly in demand right now and something that prospective learners need to have acquired when they graduate from Nexford University.

Carlos Gutierrez backed this up when he talked about the current skills that modern companies are looking for both now and tomorrow. In his address he outlined that the top skills employers are looking for in an employee are persuasiveness, empathy, and critical thinking. By procuring those skills from Nexford University, Mr Gutierrez made it known to Nexford graduates present that they had now acquired the skills required to be better placed to become future leaders and build lucrative careers.

But he warned that their journey had not ended by graduating from Nexford, but that it was just getting started as he recommended that all graduates continually upskill so as not to be tossed on the redundancy pile. He said that the future is about skills and not just about having a degree to hang on your wall.

Is attending an online university worth it?

Carlos Gutierrez and Morgan Davis said at the Nexford US graduation ceremony that they believed that online education was the way of the future even in a post pandemic society, as great swaths of people have reaped the benefits of this type of learning.

FutureLearn wholeheartedly agrees with those statements in that they have outlined the five pros of online universities, all of which Nexford University offers.

1.  The flexibility

Online universities give students the flexibility to learn where they want and when they want. This allows them to fit learning around their work schedule, so they can earn while they learn.

2. The cost

On the whole tuition is highly affordable. At Nexford learners can pay their tuition with a unique monthly payment plan; the faster they finish, the more money they’ll save.

3. The convenience

With online learning, students don’t have the hassle and added costs of commuting to a traditional campus and assignments can be completed and submitted at any time of the day or night.

4. The prestige

Many learners crave the possibility to learn at an accredited US university and the prestige that comes with it as their degrees are recognized worldwide.

5. The skills

With competency-based learning that prioritises skills over theory, Nexford is one of those online standout universities that is revolutionizing the way that modern students learn.

In closing Mr Gutierrez was quick to acknowledge the hard work and sacrifices that learners had made to get them to the point of graduating from Nexford when he said to all graduates in the room, “This is a great success that you have achieved and it will help you in the future when you look back on it and realize if I did that, I can do anything else.”
